   Overview of the Gouldian Finch

    Keeping Gouldian Finches or any other finch for that matter is a fun and pleasurable
    experience both for the novice and advanced hobbyist alike. Once you own a pair
    of Gouldian finches chances are good that you will become hooked and want more
    because these little wonders of the bird family are just simply beautiful.

    The Gouldian Finch is nearing extinction and are a protected bird in their natural
    habit in Australia however are legal to keep and breed in captivity within your home
    or garden aviary. These birds should be kept in groups of 2 or more preferably
    male and female.  They lay from 3 to 6 eggs during mating season.  These birds
    have a life span of between 4 and 8 years. As in most bird species the male bird
    is the more colorful of the two sexes.

    Where do I keep my bird?

    These are some considerations on selecting a location where your Gouldian Finch
    will thrive and should be deciding factors in selecting a home for your Gouldians.
    A location that you spend time
    Make sure there is plenty of sunlight
    If housing in a small cage make sure it is out of reach of small pets and children
    Keep away from window drafts and air conditioning drafts
    Following these simple steps you are assured your birds will like their new homes.
