    Housing your Gouldian

When selecting a cage for your Gouldians select one that is large enough for the
number of birds you plan to provide a home for.  For two Gouldians a good size
home is 3'x2'x2' so more then that in one cage you should do the calculation on the
size. Make sure you have plenty of perching posts in their home and the cage
should be cleaned at least every other day, preferably every day if it is a small cage.

You should also provide a nesting area as they may be more comfortable spending
the night in a roost. This is not a requirement but it will also encourage breeding if
this is something you may be interested in. Gouldian Finches Plus offers an
assortment of nest boxes in our products section of our website.

You can use newspaper for the floor of your Gouldians home. This makes cleanup
a breeze and very inexpensive.  If you wish a more natural looking flooring for you
birds you can use pine bark, Bermuda grass and small twigs and sticks. This will
also make excellent building material for nests.

Toys are also encourage.  This give your birds something to do and allows them to
explore things.  A word of advise is never use string or string like material to hang
toys in your birds cage.  String can be lethal to a bird and should never be used.

Birds like their space as well and by dividing the perch is a good idea if you have
more birds then perches.  This stops aggression. A trick is to use clothes pins.
